Uncomfortable HarmonyBeings who can never fully understand one another inhabit the same world. Within their imperfect coexistence, an uneasy yet delicate harmony emerges.

RED THREAD
RED THREAD explores the traces left behind by relationships. The red thread is the memory of a connection once shared—a lingering remnant of emotions that resist disappearance. This series became the starting point for my ongoing exploration of relational traces and imperfect coexistence.

CHARACTERS
Three figures inhabit the world of Eunjoo Kim.
Narace, Rubellia, and Selva inhabit Eunjoo Kim’s pictorial world.
Born from different forms of incompleteness, each finds her own way of inhabiting and navigating the world.
NARACENarace is a sea nymph born with wings on her back. Unable to belong to the deep sea because she is different from the other nymphs, she is left alone until one day she encounters strange beings who, like her, do not quite belong.Gifted with the magical ability to grow plants, Narace plants trees upon their bodies and connects their traces, gradually creating a sea of her own. For Narace, incompleteness is not a wound to be hidden, but the beginning of a magic through which new relationships and new worlds can emerge.
RUBELLIARubellia was born in a land where mirages bloom by day and the world freezes by night. Her magic creates illusions and transforms the world around her. Yet these illusions are not simply deceptions; they are a means of survival, created to protect herself. Wandering through a garden of mirages alongside beings who have lost their heads, Rubellia creates a world of her own where desire and choice, beauty and unease coexist.
SELVAFlowers begin to grow from Selva’s mouth. Having lost her voice, she leaves for a forest beyond the map.Where words disappear, other senses awaken, growing into plants and trees. Gradually, the boundary between her body and the landscape dissolves, until Selva herself becomes a forest. For Selva, solitude is both an absence and a space in which she can deepen. New life emerges from the ground she once believed to be desolate, and quiet beginnings appear where she thought everything had ended. Having lost her way, Selva becomes a path herself.

2026Characters, landscapes, and fragments of memory appear as interconnected traces.
Through their imperfect coexistence, individual stories gradually merge into a shared world called ORBIT.
StatementMy work is a record of beings that continue to exist within imperfection, and of the state of being together without ever fully understanding one another. I call this state “imperfect coexistence” and explore it through painting. My practice began long ago with fragments of a grand and innocent narrative: “magical girls save the world.” I was fascinated by the image of young women becoming heroes, and by the possibility that mythical beings, if they were to appear in reality, might instead become strange and marginal presences. My early work began with questions about difference and otherness, but over time, my attention shifted toward relationships. How do different beings form relationships? Why do some connections endure while others fall out of alignment? And how do the differences and tensions between them give rise to another world? The beings in my paintings do not share the same memories. They pass one another with their own desires and their gazes directed elsewhere. Yet the traces they leave behind do not disappear. They become trees, constellations, and gradually accumulate into a landscape. Through painting, I seek to translate invisible emotional currents and the distances between beings into visual form.In this world, nature is not simply a backdrop but the visible manifestation of traces. Trees grow and connect one being to another, while the sea carries memories and emotions within its currents. Mythic narratives and the realm of nature converge within a single world, where landscape takes shape through the accumulation of the time and emotions left behind by different beings.Classical pictorial compositions, mythic spaces, and anime-inspired figures meet amid lines that cut across the picture plane and gazes that move in divergent directions. These lines divide the landscape, while traces re-emerge between them as trees, constellations, and the sea. Landscape is no longer a background; it becomes a living structure, continually transformed through the accumulation of traces left by relationships and collisions.Within this space, memories of the past, encounters in the present, and possibilities that have yet to arrive are layered onto a single pictorial plane.Ultimately, my paintings are visual records that explore how the traces left by different beings become images, become landscapes, and eventually expand into a living world.__________________________나의 작업은 완전히 이해할 수 없음에도 서로 함께 존재하는 상태, 그리고 불완전함 속에서도 사라지지 않는 생명들에 대한 기록이다.
